Rescue 2012 Ambassadors Elizabeth Pluimers and Daniel Moodie tell us how to stay in shape this festive season

With Christmas just around the corner, no doubt your diaries are jam packed with social occasions which involve overeating, drinking, indulging and running from one occasion to the next. Although as much fun as this can be, it can leave us feeling tired, rundown and a few kilos heavier!

So, we thought we would ask a couple of our Rescue 2012 Ambassadors how they suggest staying in shape over the Festive season…

Elizabeth Pluimers, member of the Australian National team and Northcliffe Surf Club, says Christmas day is the one day where she lets a little loose with regards to what she eats. But as Elizabeth is always in hard training over the Christmas period with the Ironman Series, having one day off doesn’t hurt. Elizabeth trains 3 times a day and having a very important sporting competition the week after New Year means that it's easier to avoid over doing it!! However, because this isn't the case for majority of competitors, Elizabeth recommends having everything in moderation. She usually tries to get down to the beach for a surf or swim which gets you out of the house and away from all the choccies, food and alcohol!

Daniel Moodie, member of the New Zealand National team, believes you still need to have a bit of fun and enjoy yourself over Christmas, just don't overdo it. The holidays are the perfect time to spend hours on your board just catching waves and trying all the tricks. Those sessions are not a waste and will often be the best board sessions you do. Keep up your water intake and even carry a water bottle around to remind you to keep hydrated.

So as we head into the peak of the festive season, Rescue 2012 would like to wish you a happy and safe Christmas break and if you find you are feeling a little sluggish after all the Christmas cheer, take a tip from our Rescue 2012 Ambassadors and hit the beach!!
